The Shanghai Museum East addresses the typology of the existing Shanghai Museum West reversing its opaque formalism and monumentality to open a void that attracts the flow of people to its courtyards and galleries. Solid and Air interact with people as in the Chinese landscape paintings or the work of Chillida, excavating matter to infill light. Solid as a rock and fluid as thermodynamics, the museum connects past, present and future melting nature and culture.
