Yangpu Bridge Area Riverside Development Plan

The riverbank management project of the Yangpu River, in its encounter with the majestic Yangpu Bridge, is based on an initial consideration of the purpose of urban renewal of the entire riverbank area based on innovation and culture through knowledge and reuse of its fantastic industrial heritage as well as the use of the new road networks approved and in execution. From this perspective, the first purpose of the spatial reorganization project is to take care of the rationalization and use of the detected programmatic areas: the riverside area, consisting of a public walkway and industrial heritage, which are transformed into cultural and leisure centers; the new layout of Yangpu Road, forming a continuous, consistent and mixed-use urban fabric that integrates residential, commercial and office uses, the central area between the river and Yangpu Rd., in which green areas are deployed and uses dedicated to new forms of work and innovation. This first scheme in three large strips allows a rationalization of uses, tracings and typologies giving rise to some approaches that try to create identity taking advantage of their morphological characteristics and generating with the set of industrial buildings a set as a collage that tries to make the most of existing and emphasize the interest and variety of the urban layout and especially the public space.
